Island Vibe Festival only hours away - In fact only one hour from the mainland...

24 OCTOBER 2011

With only hours to go until Island Vibe 2011 the crew are getting very busy putting everything in place for an unbelievable weekend...

This year sees legend Chali 2na return to the festival for his second helping of island culture and good times and he isn't alone. Alongside Chali this year, for the first time, we are excited to bring you Blue King Brown and Electric Wire Hustle. These three acts are more than just supported on four stages by a host of over 60 mighty acts from all across Australia and the Pacific region - including Murri and Islander dance and cultural groups - we welcome you to gather on Minjerribah for a celebration of music, dance, art and culture.

The world famous Point Lookout on Stradbroke Island is located barely 90 minutes from Brisbane, and the festival site itself is located in the park beside the stunning Home Beach, allowing festival-goers the opportunity to bask in the cooling azure waters of the South Pacific Ocean between performances, workshops and the shenanigans that are part of this unique Australian event.

If you haven't bought your ticket yet (and why not?) there are still some final round tix left online here right now.

If not then you can grab them at the box office at the gate.

FRIDAY 28th – SUNDAY 30th OCTOBER 2011

Grace Barbe (Seychelles)
Bobby Alu
Impossible Odds
Bertha Control Reunion!
Selecta Ras George
DJ Dakini

and many many more to announced!!

Friday June 17: Island Vibe Festival returns for its 6th year, retaining its reputation as the best reggae, soul and dub event in Australia. The first line-up announcement sees USA hip hop baritone Chali 2na (ex-Jurassic 5/Ozomatli) returning to headline Island Vibe after making a massive splash at the festival in 2009. 2na will be joined by local favourites Blue King Brown, plus Opiuo, Dubmarine, Grace Barbe (Seychelles), Bobby Alu, Impossible Odds, Selecta Ras George, DJ Dakini and the Bertha Control reunion show. The announcement is just the top of the iceberg however, with many more artists and performers to be announced in the next few months.

With a strong eco and cultural focus, Island Vibe is held at the magnificent beachside location of Point Lookout, Stradbroke Island – or Minjerribah as it is known to the Quandamooka people indigenous to the region.

Island Vibe spans 3 glorious spring days at the end of the whale migration season and plays host to over 50 bands, DJs, dance and circus acts from around Australia, the Pacific and beyond. This year promises to bring back a fantastic line up and some very special international guests.

Chali 2na is returning to Australia following on from his massive 2009 appearance, and has been confirmed to play 2011 Island Vibe. The legendary US hip hop artist’s deep baritone voice and rapid flow was the unrivalled highlight of the festival two years ago, and it’s an absolute pleasure to have him returning for this year’s event.

The former Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli rapper broke out as a solo artist in 2004 with the release of The Fish Market mixtape, which was followed by Fish Outta Water in 2009 and the Fish Market Part 2 in 2010. His solo work has seen him collaborate with Talib Kweli, Beenie Man, and Stephen and Damien Marley in what has seen 2na experiment with elements of dub and dancehall.

A crazy priced and very limited early bird ticket is now on sale for the avid fans only from

The next round of Early bird tickets will be available from,, Jet Black Cat Music, Grooven, Butter beats, Rockinghorse and the usual outlets.

From raw beginnings as a young punk playing with The Gastric Chunks and Acid Moon, Morgyn Quinn (aka Rudi Quinzalez) started his career at underground festivals such as EarSex and monthy noise gigs at the local community centre.

In 1999 Rudi toured Japan as bass player with Gudju Gudju and stayed as a guest with the Ainu people of Hokkaido. In 2001 Rudi visited the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago, researching the origins of Rastafarian culture and satisfying a deep love of reggae music.

In 2003 Rudi settled in Brisbane and  founded Rudekat Records and going on to play in such acts as Hot rubber Glove, The Dynamic Thrills, Die Rude, The RudeKat Sound System and The Senors alongside such players as Paulie B (The Beautiful Girls, Bobby ALu), Lachlan Mitchell (Laneous & The Family Yah), D KazMan (Dubmarine, and Sunny Dread (The Zionites).

What started as an ethical clothing label specializing in original screenprints, the company soon expanded to include live events and music releases.

As well as being an avenue to release Australian reggae and independent music, Rudekat Records has been the creative force behind the Kuranda Roots Festival (2003 - 2013), West End Carnivale (2009 - 2010) and Island Vibe Festival (2006 - 2013). Rudekat also co-developed a DIY Event Management course for Youth at the Byron Bay YAC.

Rudekat Records has always been a strong supporter of environmental groups and causes, donating popular tee shirt designs to The Wilderness Society and The Australian Marine Conservation Society. Island Vibe has a strong environment record and has been twice awarded by the prestigious international A Greener Festivals Award. Wherever possible, Rudekat uses recycled materials for posters and CD manufacture, promotes recycling and DIY composting at festivals, and abstains from sweat-shop produced merchandise.

A trademark of Rudekat events is a cross fertilization of cultures, with a strong focus on Indigenous and Pacific artists and World Music. Rudekat has been proud to work with a stunning line up of star acts over the years including Archie Roach, The Easy Star AllStars (US), Prince Alla (Jamaica), JipaJiroa (Vanuatu), Opiuo, Spoonbill, Blue King Brown, Katchafire (NZ), Nicky Bomba, Chali 2na (US), The Black Seeds (NZ), House of Shem (NZ), Olmecha Supreme (NZ), Ladi 6 (NZ), Little Bushman (NZ), 1814 (NZ), The Beautiful Girls, Mista Savona, Grace Barbe, Oka, Dubmarine, Kooii, Kingfisha, Electric Wire Hustle (NZ), Zennith, Mantaka, The YuluBarribah Dancers, The Groote Eylandt Dancers amongst many others.
